This is an excellent tool for hand-eye coordination and for keeping hands busy. This is appropriate for people in any stage of dementia. The wood finish to the activity boards is reminiscent of woodworking and the lacing activity is similar to many hand crafts like knitting or sewing. 
Please consider your approach when introducing this activity to a person with dementia. It may help to demonstrate the activity. You can also prompt the person with questions like, “Can you lace this up for me?” or “Can you examine this?”
Some other advice includes making sure the person is in a well lit area and can see the activity clearly. It may help to do this activity at a table, or to place a pillow on the person’s lap to support the activity.
