I see your fantasy novel, with your big, sweeping ideas of war and freedom and chaos. I get it. But you missed the bullseye. The worldbuilding is too clumsy and feels dated (gender-based magic should probably not be a thing anymore; we've run that fantasy trope to the ground). The protagonist flounces from scene to scene like the most spoiled brat in existence despite being on the run from the other kingdoms. She crabs when she doesn't get her way despite the horrific situations happening to other people. First world problems indeed. I'm sorry you have to wear a dress and be diplomatic and maybe, just maybe, have an arranged marriage to a super sexy prince that you happen to like a lot anyway. Sorry. Your life is the worst. Even if most of your kingdom is in slavery, your life sucks the most. The second half of the book grows up considerably: the plot twists are a bit silly, and "rousing" speeches always sound stilted to me, but the stakes are decently high, and her snarky attitude comes and goes appropriately. Definitely avoid the audiobook at all costs: it's not a good production.
