"It's hard work being a farmer..." This story goes through the typical day of a farmer. Except instead of chickens and cows, this farmer has dinosaurs and man eating plants. But in the end he sleeps peacefully surrounded by the wonderful dinosaurs he takes care of. The illustrations are mixed media. They have a lot of texture and color and are large, making it easier for the little ones to view. The pictures were funny and enjoyable to look at. This story is a wonderful take on a typical farmer's day. There was humor sprinkled throughout including the pile of poop the farmer had to clean up while the dinosaur behind him snickers. Children will love laughing out loud at this book. The only thing that bothered me was on the fourth page the farmer started his day by eating a great big dinosaur egg. I know, I know. We eat eggs and they come from chickens. But later in the book is an illustration of hatching dinosaur eggs. Whimper. I eat eggs, but I had a hard time with this scene. Hopefully I am the only one and children will not notice this. This is a fun book for ages 3-6 as both a read aloud and for beginning level readers.
