In my opinion, O'Neill's second book does not live up to the high standards set by her first book "Lullabies for Little Criminals". She tries for quirky and whimsical, unfortunately it just comes off as awkward. I finished it, but only because I didn't have anything else to read. The characters are not particularly endearing, and overall, it was one of those books that you just can't get lost in; you remain conscious of the narrative voice and that you are "reading". Too bad, was looking forward to another book by O'Neill.
