To be honest, I'm still not totally sure of the whole story and background of Bourne. And this book was very, very long. That said I don't feel I wasted my time with it and the ending was quite satisfying; surprises and little hints throughout the book making it worth while. Some of it still went over my head, particularly all that french and who was who in the Treadstone circle. When they say Ludlum stuffs more surprises into his novels than any other six-pack of thriller writers combined, they are really not joking. Despite that, it all culminated quite well, though I wonder how much of the material was necessary. Lots of the space was taken up with reminders and repetition of previous events/people, but with a book this length it was needed. Even with those reminders, I couldn't say who everyone was or what exactly transpired, but without them I might not have understood anything.
