Overall I liked the book. At the beginning it was intruging to watch how the stories develop on the historical background, the combination of personal and world events balanced just right, just as if it was all fiction. However, especially towards the end, I sometimes felt as if watching a played documentary. Somehow the main characters seemed be there to help to describe the main historical events, not because they themselves were interesting - the easiness of story telling lost in a history lesson. I feel the book would be better by building the plot with less emphasis on listing every historical breakpoint. Sure, it was the greatest and most thrilling history textbook I ever read, but as a book, it was a bit too predictable. A very good read nevertheless. 3.5/5
