A short, great, and super-creepy scary story from Pullman. What if you were an author and one of your characters came to life? What if the story you started and didn't finish was unfolding around you? There's a young prince, and tavern-owner's daughter, a clock maker looking for an easy way out of a tight spot, and a writer. It's a different kind of fairy tale complete with scary villains, royalty and peasants, and a lesson.
