This novel is a satire about actors and celebrity. It is told in the stories of two people; a television actor who is trying to break into cinema and the big time and who is totally narcisstic and unrelenting in how he treats others, and an obsessive fan. Neither portrait strikes a false note. There are some very funny scenes, such as the visit to the National Gallery. Foulds can really write!
