The third novella in the Murderbot series continues to be an amusing read, but the plot is repackaged from novella #2. In Murderbot’s search for evidence to implicate misdeeds by the GrayCris corporation, it encounters humans in danger that it intervenes to save. It also has to deal with an annoying “petbot”, which provides comic relief like ART in novella #2. And the plot relies on Murderbot’s ability to hack just about anything; I guess software in some future millennium is still filled with security vulnerabilities. Or perhaps Murderbot’s unique sentience combined with its augmented processing power give it a hacking advantage, because other security bots don’t seem to have the same level of capability. Regardless the curmudgeonly, but principled Murderbot character and the well-written action sequences are delightfully entertaining.

Another good, fun, interesting sequel in the Murderbot novella series. While the plot was a little more complex and slightly less engaging than the first two novellas, it had a strong ending and did an excellent job further characterizing Murderbot's motivations and intriguing personality. I missed fleshed-out human characters like Dr. Mensah and fantastic A.I. characters like ART. However, Miki's story was done well. My fourth favourite Murderbot novella.

Murderbot, as usual, is hilarious.

#3 in this interesting series of SF novellas. It really reads like a novel in four parts.

The main character, a security android or “SecUnit”, no longer calls itself “Murderbot”. In this book it refers to itself as Security Consultant Rin. It is trying to gather evidence against the evil GrayCris Corporation, which has been plundering planetary archaeological sites – and murdering the opposition – for a long time. It stows away on a shuttle going to a GrayCris derelict terraforming station, where it thinks it might find some leftover evidence to put GrayCris completely out of business. But soon it discovers that, as usual, the humans on the shuttle don’t know what they are getting into and that they really need a SecUnit on their side. It also finds Miki, a robot who needs a friend. Plenty of action but not a lot of actual plot. The real interest is in Rin’s continuing efforts to define itself as a unique combination of human, machine, programming, and free will.

Really enjoying the Murderbot diaries. They're so short I get to read a whole book in an evening, but they don't short you on the story. I think I even prefer getting the overall story in short bites. As one big book, it might be a little unwieldy, plus I'd rush through the whole thing. Dividing it into four chapters makes it much more accessible and enjoyable.
The writing is fun and the characters are good. Highly recommended.

Murderbot continues to be a fascinating and amusing narrator, and its adventures are exciting. The climactic battle in this novella is amazing. It's always great to see strong female characters, and the female characters in this book definitely fit that description. Can't wait for the next book in this thought-provoking series!

pg 97: We're talking about GrayCris here, whose company motto seemed to be "profit by killing everybody and taking their stuff".
Does this sound familiar?!?!
