I love Jaqueline Woodson and think this is a wonderful book. Because of some mature, intense content, including a graphic description of the father's suicide attempt, which was witnessed by the teenaged protagonist, I would recommend this book for people age 12+.

This novel reminded me of one of the many Grateful Dead songs that helped me through tragedy over the years, Black Peter. "Just want to have a little peace to die and a friend or two I love at hand...See here how everything lead up to this day and it's just like any other day that's ever been." Sometimes a day comes along that changes everything, steals the face right off your head and leaves nothing but your soul.
