An Amazon Charts and USA Today bestseller.

Gina Royal is the definition of average--a shy Midwestern housewife with a happy marriage and two adorable children. But when a car accident reveals her husband's secret life as a serial killer, she must remake herself as Gwen Proctor--the ultimate warrior mom.

With her ex now in prison, Gwen has finally found refuge in a new home on remote Stillhouse Lake. Though still the target of stalkers and Internet trolls who think she had something to do with her husband's crimes, Gwen dares to think her kids can finally grow up in peace.

But just when she's starting to feel at ease in her new identity, a body turns up in the lake--and threatening letters start arriving from an all-too-familiar address. Gwen Proctor must keep friends close and enemies at bay to avoid being exposed--or watch her kids fall victim to a killer who takes pleasure in tormenting her. One thing is certain: she's learned how to fight evil. And she'll never stop.

Great book! Finished it in a day - it was hard to put it down.

First book in a series about a woman and her 2 kids whose lives are turned upside down when they discover that the husband/father is a serial killer. After repeatedly having to relocate and reinvent themselves to get away from internet trolls who think the mother was an accomplice, they finally find a place where they want to stay and call home. But their hopes are dashed when a copycat killer turns up in their new town. I thought this mystery/thriller was a pretty good page turner. I liked the theme of a tough Mom who would do anything to protect her kids. Although she second guesses herself a lot and makes some mistakes along the way, there’s no doubting the strength of her love for her kids. It ended with a cliffhanger so I’m ready to move on to book 2.

Really loved this book and look forward to reading the rest of the series! I do agree that the author could have made Gina/Gwen more interesting.

Uninteresting story of mother shielding herself and two children from a former husband serial killer. No real plot twists here, just the same paranoid feeling throughout. Don't waste your time.

I think when an author is having her character speak in first person, she has to make the character be appealing in some way. After about 40 pages, I never found Gina/Gwen worth my time. The story begins dramatically and has real potential. But then we have mother who IMHO has gone off the rails. I found her response to the terrible circumstances ridiculous, even bordering on child abuse. Thumbs down for me.

I found this book hard to put down and from that criterion, it was quite good. The "who-dun-it" aspect was rather easy to predict, although there are certainly red herrings and the story was still intriguing. Better editing would have made it less repetitive. The story involves a serial killer in Wichita, and someone who may have been or known anyone associated with the BTK strangler case might want to avoid this one. Readers should be forewarned that the "ending" leaves a cliffhanger, presumably a lead-in for another book - thus this is not a stand-alone story.
