Most teenagers are allowed latitude for sometimes being selfish and near-sighted with the understanding that human development may require that experience in order to become independent. Do those temporary qualities of biology compound consequences during a time of war? This haunting coming of age novel explores this idea through the eyes of well-to-do Dutch teenager, Jacob Koopman. This will appeal to those who enjoyed "All the Light We Cannot See" and "The Nightingale" because of similar settings, evocative writing, and well-developed characters.
