Not as special as I thought it would have been and the ending was too ambiguous for my tastes. I guess I'm supposed to assume what happens but I would have preferred more of a concrete and if necessary vivid conclusion.
Unnecessary but not terrible.
The artist deserves better than this. Even a second writer can't save this. Frank Miller, who's been riding on past glories now for decades on end, gives this prequel of sorts to his Dark Knight Returns tale, telling how Batman (in his alternate reality setting) ended up slipping into retirement. The whole tale meanders and wanders, and ends up feeling like half a story. Don't waste your time; Miller is long, long, long past his prime.
