"Fleeing a disastrous and humiliating arrest of her husband-to-be on the eve of their wedding, Celia Kilbride, a gems and jewelry expert, hopes to escape from public attention by lecturing on a brand-new cruise ship the Queen Charlotte. On board she meets eighty-six-year-old Lady Emily Haywood, Lady Em, as she is known throughout the world. Immensely wealthy, Lady Em is the owner of a priceless emerald necklace that she intends to leave to the Smithsonian after the cruise. Three days out to sea Lady Em is found dead and the necklace is missing. Is it the work of her apparently devoted assistant, Brenda Martin, or her lawyer-executor, Roger Pearson, and his wife, Yvonne, both of whom she had invited to join them on the cruise? Or is it Professor Henry Longworth, an acclaimed Shakespeare scholar who is lecturing on board? Or Alan Davidson, a guest on the ship who is planning to spread his wife's ashes at sea? The list of suspects is large and growing. Celia, with the help of her new friends Willy and Alvirah Meehan, who are celebrating their forty-fifth wedding anniversary, sets out to find the killer, not realizing that she has put herself in mortal danger before the ship reaches its final destination."

This seemed like classic Mary Higgins Clark to me. The short chapters with the many cliffhanger endings, the variety of characters -- some with checkered pasts, the addition of a dark comic element and more add up to a mystery that is easy and enjoyable to read.

It may help that I finished this book while actually on a cruise ship, although the ship I was on could not compare to the ship in the book. I found the book to be a realistic depiction of a high-dollar cruise on the Atlantic and thoroughly enjoyed the ride.

Looking forward to a new MHC novel so I jumped on it right away until I realized, once again, it was another Willy and Alvirah Meehan story. Then I was done. MHC should have never started with this couple but she needs to get rid of them and just give us another good mystery she does so well. Hope Willy and Alvirah finally drown on this cruise.

I can't say anything good about it.

I am a very big fan of Mary Higgins Clark and have read all of her books that I could get my hands on. This book is just as good as I expected it to be. Alvirah and Willy Meehan won millions of dollars in a lottery and have taken a cruise to celebrate their 45 wedding anniversary. While on the cruise they become friends with other passengers including an 86 year old women who has a necklace that is very rare and expensive. Someone wants that necklace and is out to get it at all costs. Alvirah and Willy set out to find out who would want that necklace enough to kill for it. Couldn't put this book down until I finished it.

Yawn. I tried listening to it. I tried reading it. I finally skimmed it. No surprises.

This is the best book that Mary Higgins Clark has written yet! If you haven't checked it out make sure you do.

Once again Mary Higgins Clark comes through with an enjoyable mystery. This one takes place on the high seas with a number of interesting characters, any of which could have been the guilty party. Enjoy.
