Gil Goodson enters the Gollywhopper Games in order to help his dad get his job back, so that they can stay where they are and not have to move to some other state (I can’t remember which). He enters the Gollywhopper Games alongside Bianca, Lavinia, Rocky, and some-other-people to win. Gil battles puzzles, giant babies, and coconuts. His dad is cheering him on, but with the number of contestants decreasing before his eyes, Gil doesn’t know if he’ll make it, or be fried toast. You’ll be hooked in the first 5 pages!

Gil Goodson wants out of Orchard Heights for good. He wants to move to Phoenix and escape the nasty looks and fair-weather friends that have made his life miserable since “The Incident.” Yep, Gil is ready to move on and, according to his Dad, there’s only one way to do it; enter and win the Gollywhopper Games, the annual competition sponsored by the Golly Toy & Game Company. It just so happens, however, that the Golly Toy & Game Company is the very same company that accused Gil’s dad of embezzling millions. Awkward as it may be, Gil is determined to win. In order to do this he must be able to solve riddles, perform stunts, and figure out tough puzzles. Oh, and he must beat the other 25,000 people attempting the same thing. Gil has the determination and the support of his parents but up against geniuses, athletes, and cheaters he must use everything he’s got, and that may not be enough. If you liked Chasing Vermeer or Charlie and the Chocolate Factory you will enjoy this fast-paced read.
