I rated this movie and am commenting on it after having just seen a newer feature film version of the same event on Netflix, Killing Heydrich. Anthropoid suffers badly by comparison. Not sure I would have given it any more than 2.5 stars in any case, but certainly not having seen the newer version.

Anthropoid's point of view is entirely that of the Czech resistance and the two would-be assassins parachuted into their native country after training in Scotland. So, their target is nothing more than a man in uniform riding in a car. We do NOT see the assassins commando training, here. We do NOT see them parachute in, and the manhunt that immediately occurs after their landing (and subsequent struggle through knee-deep snow.). We see all that and much more in the newer version.

Here's the biggest, most compelling difference: in Killing Heydrich, the resistance assassins don't even make an appearance until almost halfway through the film! The first part of the movie offers a chilling portrait of the man they're tasked with killing (oh, and his wife, too!), and offers a very powerful cinematic rationale for why he HAD to die--regardless of the consequences.

In summary: Anthropoid: OK. Killing Heydrich: Fabulous.

This is a good story, well worth telling.

The movie is a good adaptation of the real story. It kept my attention to the events. The romantic parts felt as if they were "fillers", not much time left for them. The movie shows the psychological aspect of behaviour, not just thoughtless heroism. It also invites a good discussion about the choices presented in historical situations. There is always a price to pay.

A missed opportunity. The 1942 plan to assassinate Heydrich raised (and continues to raise) the moral question of whether a spectacular act of resistance (albeit one with little military significance) is justified when it is sure to lead to terrible 'collateral damage' in the form of German reprisals against the innocent civilian population of Prague. The issue is touched on briefly at the start but is never developed. Instead the film focuses on the heroism of the Czech assassination team during their last stand in a Prague church, where they manage to kill half of the Wehrmacht in a long and conventional Hollywood shootout. Too bad.

Depressing! The Nazi's were so evil they made taking cyanide look like the attractive option.

Very good and well acted . Accurate and procedural. Shot on exact locations of incidents. Great final shootout !!!! only problem is not enough of Heydrich {not any really till his assassination} wich doesnt allow us to feel the evil that they were doing away with. These real life men are truly heroes ~420

Interesting film made in 2016 about Czech resistance to Nazi Germany. Operation Anthropoid’s mission was to assassinate Reinhard Heydrich – Hitler’s third in command and the main architect behind the Final Solution (elimination of European Jews), he was known locally as the Butcher of Prague. It follows two Czech soldiers who parachute into Czechoslovakia to meet up with local resistance fighters. The two Czech soldiers have received their orders from Czech organization in London, once in Czechoslovakia they encounter some resistance to the London issued directive. The Germans characters only speak German (no subtitles) and the locals Czechs appear rather doomed and defeated (with a die now, or die later—either way you’re going to die attitude). Film takes place in 1942. Germany has destroyed Poland and the Nazi threat is spreading. At one point Heydrich is assigned to takeover Paris, which forces the Czech resistance fighters to speed up Operation Anthropoid. Interesting viewpoint of WWII from the Czech perspective / position. Good acting, good production, a well done movie.

Based on the actual events, this is a 2016 docudrama about the "Operation Anthropoid"---the code name for the Czechoslovakian operatives' mission to assassinate SS officer Reinhard Heydrich, the Reich's third in command behind Hitler and Himmler.
The Czechoslovak government-in-exile resolved to kill Heydrich.
Jan Kubiš and Jozef Gabčík headed the team chosen for the operation.
Trained by the British Special Operations Executive (SOE), the pair returned to the Protectorate, parachuting from a Handley Page Halifax, on 28 December 1941.
They lived in hiding, preparing for the assassination attempt.
On 27 May 1942, Heydrich planned to meet Hitler in Berlin.
Hitler intended to transfer Heydrich to German-occupied France, where the French resistance was gaining ground.
Heydrich would have to pass a section where the Dresden-Prague road merged with a road to the Troja Bridge.
The junction, in the Prague suburb of Libeň, was well suited for the attack because motorists have to slow for a hairpin bend.
As Heydrich's car slowed, Gabčík took aim with a Sten submachine gun, but it jammed and failed to fire.
Instead of ordering his driver to speed away, Heydrich called his car to halt and attempted to confront the attackers.
Kubiš then threw a bomb (a converted anti-tank mine) at the rear of the car as it stopped.
The explosion wounded both Heydrich and Kubiš.
Heydrich died from his injuries a week later.
Nazi intelligence falsely linked the assassins to the villages of Lidice and Ležáky.
All men and boys over the age of 16 were shot, and all but a handful of its women and children were deported and killed in Nazi concentration camps.
The film brutally depicts the fate of the assassins.
Probably, you would get shocked to death.

You know what we have sacrificed for the cause here?
-What you have sacrificed? What has Czechoslovakia sacrificed?
You have no idea what we've sacrificed!
So this is about the Czech government in London trying to impress the allies? It was the allies that gave us to the Germans in the first place.
You know, for most girls, a little lipstick is the only way to forget what's happening here. Even if it's just
for a few hours.
The point of the mission is to succeed. Yes? I'm more worried that we haven't planned what to do if we are successful. What happens afterwards is not important.
So you think we are just two little girls who are here to follow the important parachutists around?... We've been resisting here from the beginning in our own way. I personally don't have any reservation to killing a Nazi pig. But don't treat us like what you are about to do doesn't affect us. It does and it will.

They had made their choice, Jan. Sometimes you have to pick a side.
And when Heydrich took over here last September, his first order was to execute all the prisoners. My father was among 5,000 shot in the first week by Heydrich.
Earlier, what Jan said... About taking your own lives. Was he serious?
-Maybe. "Cowards die many times before their deaths. The valiant never taste death but once." -- Shakespeare.
As a soldier, it is your duty to stay alive and continue fighting. Do you understand that,
Yesterday, the Germans went to a village, Lidice, and shot every man over the age of 16. The women and children have been taken to camps, and the buildings were razed to the ground.
You're going to murder Heydrich?
-Assassinate... murder implies he had a life worth living
