When I first picked up this book, I expected it to be gross humor and silly. Instead, it's very frightening satire that makes you think. Although the premise seems absurd, the idea that women can be incarcerated for being disrespectful to men, or even for being too fat and not living up to the "ideal" woman, seems more a warning that just a premise. This book has insight, character, and a feeling of doom. I didn't expect to like it as much as I did. Also, at the end of each chapter, there is a page of ads, that have the reminiscent feel of old comic books from the 70's. Take the time to read the ads, because they lend some backstory and while they're laugh-out-loud funny, they are also startlingly absurd. This book was a complex mess of funny, silly, and thoughtful. A very good start.
