On October 12, 2005, a deliberately set fire in the Wines Central warehouse in Vallejo, California, destroyed 4.5 million bottles and some of the world's most sought-after wines. Frances Dinkelspiel peels back the casually elegant veneer of California's wine regions to show obsession, greed and violence lying beneath.

This is a riveting story. The author gives the historical account of how the wine industry began through the tale of the wine warehouse fire on Mare Island in 2008. Highly recommended.

Liked this book, buton page 231 of the large print edition she reffers to the Sodo area of Seattle as "Soda" Ha, it just made me laugh.

A very comprehensive history of wine in California , extremely well written and documented.
A page turner as thrilling as a novel that will keep you reading through the night ( with a glass of Pinot Noir on the side?? ) .
An exceptional vintage !
