Yet another fantastic novel by one of my fave authors. The atmospheric setting, the characters, the mystery, and the beautiful writing all made for one page-turner of a book. Any time that I was forced to put it down, I could not wait to pick it back up and start reading. LOVED it!

A brilliant story with lots of twists and turns... and every time you think you have solved the mystery, something else crops up!!

Morton continues with her parallel storylines, surprising characters, shocking family secrets, and – a staple for all of Morton’s works – a gorgeous country manor. Half the journey is discovering how Alice and Sadie’s stories interconnect, and the hidden narratives within impact their journeys. With verbose descriptions of the beautiful setting and the complexities of the characters and their development throughout the novel, fans of Ian McEwan’s Atonement and Jessica Brockmole’s Letters from Skye will devour Morton’s novel.

Interesting read. I felt like the ending was rushed. There could have been so much more to the ending story.

The book contains every possible big-house and cold-case cliche and at just off 600 pages it certainly is a big baggy monster. There are whole plot lines that could have been omitted without loss, but the twin-narrative structure was well-constructed and sustained across the whole long book. It certainly romped along and drew me in so that I didn't at all mind reading great slabs of it, which is probably the way you'd read it if it were a holiday read. But it's not high literature, and I suspect that much of its appeal is that it is so recognizable and comfortable.

This is an enjoyable read, a little contrived at the end but it did not ruin my enjoyment. I have read several books by Kate Morton and this is one of the best. She maintains various timelines and her descriptions of places and people are very thought-provoking. Highly recommend.

I remember reading this a few years ago. Great book!

This book was great, however I couldn't hold myself back and I had to find out what happened to the missing child so I read up to chapter 17 then I skipped ahead and read the last three chapters. I thought the details of the Lake House were nice but my main thought was where did the child go. Worth the read.

Plot. The shifts in time periods are expertly done.

This one made me cry. Happy tears but tears nonetheless. Nice twist, but as others have said the ending was a little rushed. Still a great book. Highly recommend it.

I was pleasantly surprised by this book. Surprised when I received it (because I didn't remember placing it on hold) and surprised that I liked it. If you are a fan of alternating timelines, multiple perspectives and a splash of mystery, then this is the (long) book for you. My only criticism is the ending was a little too contrived for me, but the author had to tie up the plethora of loose ends in some way. It didn't dampen my enjoyment of the book, but it did cause an eye-roll or two.
