Holly Jennings has created a great world in Arena and I loved how she really flipped gaming on it's head. I can totally see this future coming true once the technology is there. Having gamers be the most popular celebrities was a great idea! Kali was a very enjoyable narrator because she was real; she makes mistakes, says stupid things, has real emotions and struggles with things just like everyone else. I'm not a big fan of first person narratives but the action and world building kept this story very interesting for me. I also liked the developing love story between Kali and Rooke.

Although the dialogue was lacking at times, just a little bit predictable, I really enjoyed this one. I went in thinking it would be all about the game, but it was more of a tug of war between the virtual reality and the effects that being immersed in a false world can have on someone's perception of the real world. It was a very realistic picture of where our own society could find itself in the future, with athlete gamers abusing drugs to keep themselves in a world where they can never truly die. Very interesting, intense at times, and a solid choice if you're looking for some light sci-fi that has potential to be reality.
