A great ghost story for a rainy night..

A ghost story with a modern day setting in the farmlands of England was based on the idea that a centuries old house in the country must have ghosts or a backstory involving some disasters. The story had an interesting beginning and seemed promising, but by the middle I was shaking my head. Ghosts using a computer and iphone just wasn't believable. As the story neared its end, it seemed a chunk of the story was missing which left me scratching my head. This novel was really a waste of time as I had expected more from Peter James. Too many colloquial words embedded in sentences which were to suggest the main character's frustration just left me feeling more and more that this novel had been a waste of good afternoon.

I enjoyed this well told Gothic Tale set in current day England.
I felt it was nicely done and respected the parameters of the genre.

A completely by-the-numbers novel. I knew the whole plot by the second chapter. The movie equivalent would be a cheap made for TV filler movie.

If you take a lead character and make him thick as a plank, and have him as part of a family that doesn't share vital information with each other, plus add in a bunch of irrelevant, boring detail -- you can drag out an annoying 300 page novel where the reader is pretty well hoping the whole family gets knocked off, just so it will all be over with. A very disappointing effort by a novelist whose work I usually enjoy.

A classic ghost story with a modern infusion. Great, easy read.
