Kathleen Doyle is on the trail of a killer who seems to be intent on handing out vigilante justice--killing those who, for one reason or another, have not paid the price for their crimes. But as she gets closer to the killer, other dangers lurk. Solonik has reared his head again, pulling Doyle into his web in unexpected ways. And Acton is acting...surprisingly distant, given his usual fascination with his new wife. With trouble on every front, all Doyle can do is soldier on and hope that her fine sense of intuition will be enough to save them all in the end.

I still think that Michael is still too controlling of his wife, monitoring her by GPS,etc. I think that he is scary and weird (also much too secretive!). This relationship is definitely NOT normal.

These Doyle & Acton Scotland Yard series books are FANTASTIC! So much so that I requested the library to purchase the latest 4 books. Doyle is an amazing female character who is a good person with upstanding morals. Doyle is always encouraging people in her vicinity to make good choices but doesn't condemn them if they don't. Doyle has courage to face scary things in real-life situations. Readers will not be disappointed with this series.

Damn...every time a book in this series comes out, I immediately drop whatever I'm reading. My apologies to the other authors. Please stand by, I will get back to you.
Perhaps one of the oddest pairs of detectives in popular crime fiction is back. As usual, the plot is convoluted & you never know where the next threat is coming from.
Some of the story lines from previous books are continued but there are a few twists that make you wonder if you really knew some of the returning characters. And unfortunately, Owens (a police officer killed in a previous book) is coming back to haunt Doyle & Acton. Turns out he was a little better connected than they thought.
As for the Doyle & Acton, they are finally settling into life together & their individual quirks guarantee the marriage is anything but boring. There are several cases on the go, one involving a possible serial killer & as the bodies begin to pile up, it's clear that someone is trying to bring Acton down & if his wife gets caught in the middle, so be it.
Reynolds, their house keeper, continues to be one of my favourite characters. His combination of dry wit & sang froid makes him the kind of guy who will coolly finish preparing dinner after helping you hide a body.
It's a fast paced police procedural with a touch of romance & plenty of red herrings to keep you guessing. the long wait for the next book begins.
