This volume is prized for its older content. It made the recent Secret Wars make more sense to me as to why Doom was the Antagonist. It really showed me how both Secret Wars go together. If you haven't read either Secret Wars this volume may not be very meaningful or helpful to you. Best to find a copy of the first Secret Wars in a collection, read this, then read the latest incarnation of Secret Wars for full appreciation (and if you have the time!).

An odd collection. Some of this is more relevant to the second Secret Wars event than one particular issue that really doesn't belong here at all. The final issues of the original Secret Wars start things off, while three issues of Hickman's New Avengers run end it with the Illuminati facing a world ending threat. In between, issues of Fantastic Four and two Ultimate titles take up space- but it can be argued that the Ultimate Spider-Man issue has absolutely no place in importance as a prelude to Secret Wars. It's just an excuse to fit a Bendis issue in somewhere, and frankly, the one issue hampers the quality of the collection overall.
