I couldn't put down this compelling and readable book, wanting more and more of the stories of interesting and complex people the author treated during her training as a clinical psychologist. At first I wasn't sure I could finish it; the first few stories were disturbing and I ached for some of the patients. But the author's growth as a clinician and person as she figured out how to treat them was so compelling I couldn't stop reading. I loved how she smashed the "us and them" stereotype of mental health, and showed that she herself is vulnerable in many of the same ways her patients are. A moving, emotional read.
