From the New York Times and #1 internationally bestselling author of The Distant Hours , The Forgotten Garden , and The House at Riverton , a spellbinding novel of family secrets, murder, and enduring love.

During a picnic at her family's farm in the English countryside, sixteen-year-old Laurel Nicolson witnesses a shocking crime, a crime that challenges everything she knows about her adored mother, Dorothy. Now, fifty years later, Laurel and her sisters are meeting at the farm to celebrate Dorothy's ninetieth birthday. Realizing that this is her last chance to discover the truth about that long-ago day, Laurel searches for answers that can only be found in Dorothy's past. Clue by clue, she traces a secret history of three strangers from vastly different worlds thrown together in war-torn London--Dorothy, Vivien, and Jimmy--whose lives are forever after entwined. A gripping story of deception and passion, The Secret Keeper will keep you enthralled to the last page.

This is a complex story filled with richly drawn out characters whose lives intersect during the Blitz. The plot segues seamlessly between the 1940s, the 1960s and the present day. The English countryside and wartime London are vividly described. The build up to the denouement kept me on the edge... Read More »

One of the few books that genuinely shocked me at the end. I will have to read more of hers!

1st half of book slow...middle a twist....latter half wow....engaging story about Laurel and her
mother Dorothy...set in two periods present and 1940 during WW2....follows the lives of 3 very
different women all linked by a terrible secret

Interesting female characters from the present and the past (WWII) merge to tell a tale and solve a mystery.

Oldest daughter Laurel was witness to her mother’s killing of man on her brother’s second birthday, a death judged self-defense. Now, as her mother’s life is coming to an end long-held secrets begin to unfold.

Morton’s page-turning novel set in WW II London and recent time has a remarkable cast of characters and quite a story. Loved it.
