What are my qualifications to write this book? None really. So why should you read it? Here s why: I m a little fat. If a thin guy were to write about a love of food and eating I d highly recommend that you do not read his book.
Bacon. McDonalds. Cinnabon. Hot Pockets. Kale. Stand-up comedian and author Jim Gaffigan has made his career rhapsodizing over the most treasured dishes of the American diet ( choking on bacon is like getting murdered by your lover ) and decrying the worst offenders ( kale is the early morning of foods ). Fans flocked to his New York Times bestselling book Dad is Fat to hear him riff on fatherhood but now, in his second book, he will give them what they really crave hundreds of pages of his thoughts on all things culinary(ish). Insights such as: why he believes coconut water was invented to get people to stop drinking coconut water, why pretzel bread is #3 on his most important inventions of humankind (behind the wheel and the computer), and the answer to the age-old question which animal is more delicious: the pig, the cow, or the bacon cheeseburger? Quite funny -- an enjoyable romp through the world of food. I was familiar with Gaffigan's "Hot Pockets" skit before selecting this title, but not much else of his work, so only that bit was "recycled" for me, and I didn't mind hearing it again. I wouldn't say it's side-splittingly funny, but there are certainly a number of "LOLs" and it is consistently amusing throughout. I didn't think there would be enough humorous material on food to sustain my attention throughout the 7-ish hours of run time, but I was never bored or tempted to go listen to something else. In fact, I even missed my turn on the way home one night and drove about five miles out of my way because I was so engaged with listening to this. Well done, Mr. Gaffigan. I'd recommend to friends, particularly in audio, as Gaffigan's delivery is great. Just a word of warning: don't listen to this when you're hungry!

This book will make you laugh out loud or giggle uncontrollable. Comedian Jim Gaffigan talks about all things food, including his thoughts and revelations! Listen to hear him read out loud or read for a good laugh, either way this book is a treat!

Definitely listen to this book if you can. Jim reads the book himself. I believe it could have been a different experience had I not listened to it.

Whether or not you share Jim Gaffigan’s taste in foods and observations about eating, you will laugh out loud. Listening to this while preparing dinner, I had to stop what I was doing because I was laughing so hard.

When I think of an intersection between food and comedy, I think of Jim Gaffigan. This book does pull from his stand-up routines, but there is some original content as well. Overall it's a light and quick read with the chapters being short and grouped into stand-up like bits. If you're a rigorously healthy person, this book may not be relatable but what it will do is elevate your sense of betterment just as much as your instagram posts about wheatgrass and the correct way to do squats, so give it a read!

If you are looking for an add-on for "Dad is fat," this is NOT it. This book stays true to its title, "Food." Each section talks about different kinds of food and his opinion on them. And if you know that ahead of time, you are in for a great book. It's a super quick read, but I know you will laugh out loud! I've never been one to actually laugh out loud, but this one got me to do it numerous times!

I really wanted to like this book but alas, I could not even finish it. I enjoyed Gaffifan's first book but this one is very slow and boring. I was completely disappointed.

This is comedian Gaffigan's second book and focuses on his love/hate relationship with food. You can't help but laugh at his tactics to hide his not-so-healthy eating habits from his wife Jeannie. I loved his tour of American food which includes sea bugs and hot dog country. Gaffigan is a true Midwesterner which shines through in his near reverence for anything beef.

Definitely prefer his stand-up shows to the book which, surprisingly, had a fair bit of recycled material. This is also the first book that has made me wonder what it says about me when I choose to listen to a book for a week about a guy declaring his preferences regarding various food types.
