The director, Alex Korda, is one of nine Jewish-Hungarian exiles chronicled in the book "The Great Escape" by Kati Marton (NY: Simon & Shuster, 2006). Marton describes the close relationship between Korda and Winston Churchill; and Korda's production of "That Hamilton Woman" as a propaganda piece to prod the Americans to enter the Second World War (p. 141-2).

One of my all time favorites. Vivien Leigh is especially good. Lord Nelson was heroic.

Good - That Hamilton Woman (1941) 128 min. Wonderful adaptation of the Lord Nelson/Lady Hamilton story starring Laurence Olivier and the incredible Vivien Leigh. Leigh plays Hamilton to perfection with spot-on verbal repartees and exterior mannerisms that depict without a shadow of a doubt what she's feeling. OPL made a wise choice in purchasing this classic film. The film won the 1942 Oscar for Sound and nominated for Art Direction, Cinematography and Special Effects.
