Tense and intense. Trust and distrust, loyalty, justice mishandled. Good acting.
Why people like to watch horror stories is beyond me. We enjoyed the first two seasons of "Luther", but this third one was was too scary for us. If we wanted to be terrified out of our skins, we would have watched "Silence of the Lambs" or "Halloween" or "Friday the 13th." We thought we were in for a good BBC Who-done-it; instead we watched with our eyes & ears closed.
On the whole.. quite good. But, there are huge holes in the stories. Maybe just a difference in British policing practices, but, compared to N. American operating procedures... the Brit's S.O.P's are almost laughable. Not sure if this is supposed to be an accurate portrayal of British police... I hope not. All round good series, though...........
Loved this gritty brief series. I'm squeamish when it comes to violent crime stories and typically don't watch unless they are also somewhat humorous. This series didn't disappoint. Rarely (if at all) did they show actual violence; it typically cut to another scene or shot. The chemistry between Idris Elba and Ruth Wilson was absolute magic. It was definitely a highlight whenever they were together. His young sidekick is also lovely. I enjoyed Luther's uncanny ability to cave in and give second chances to shady and somewhat comical losers; that bit never got old, You'll find Luther's whole journey mesmerizing thanks to Idris Elba's performance.
The last of this excellent and very gritty English detective series. I wish there were more.
DCI John Luther and his partner DS Justin Ripley as well as the rest of the Serious and Serial Crime Unit have their work cut out for them in Luther 3. A serial killer with extremely violent and weird methods has connections to another serial killer who committed his murders thirty years earlier. Once that connection is figured out Luther and his team close in on both serial killers. In the final two episodes DCI Luther and DS Ripley must find a vigilante serial killer who hunts down the worst of the worst London criminals. The vigilante killer then asks the public via an internet site to decide the fate of the vigilante's captured criminals. All the while DCI Erin Gray and retired detective George Stark are conducting a special investigation to bring Luther to justice. Alice Morgan returns to London to help Luther solve his case and also save his job. During series 3 Luther meets a beautiful woman and develops a love interest. A feature film is being made to conclude the excellent and exciting Luther series.
The final 4 episodes of the series. Pretty much as the other two DVDs the content is violent but the story is interesting. I like the characters and the story development. The acting is quite good too.
The first two episodes (of the four total) are riveting and have two of the the scariest scenes I've seen on film in years. I literally got goosebumps going up and down my spine. Episodes 3 and 4 are entertaining but preposterously unbelievable.
