SUMMARY: Dog has a special suitcase full of special things that he carries everywhere. He likes to take his things out to enjoy during the day and sleep on the suitcase at night. But one morning, he awakes to a mouse sharing the suitcase with him. Dog is uncomfortable with this. But mouse promises to leave if Dog will show him the special things. Dog does, but they then become caught up in a game of hide and seek before parting ways. It suddenly becomes very quiet so Dog opens his special suitcase to look at his special things. But they don't make him feel better. Dog sets out after Mouse to find out what he needs to make him feel better.

ILLUSTRATIONS: The illustrations were created in mixed media. I absolutely adored the pictures! The trees were creatively done with either larger than life foliage or sparsely, but very colorful hanging leaves. The layout of the pages is superbly done and I loved the perspective of the details. For instance: a dandelion is as tall as mouse as it would be in real life.

REVIEW: I love this simple, but full of heart story about a dog who thinks he has it all until he gets a taste of friendship and realizes he could have more. The story is told in a creative and new way with the suitcase being all important to the dog at first and Mouse helping Dog search for that "something" more towards the end. And of course the ending is lovely and makes you sigh. I highly recommend this book for any audience.
