Dial "h" for hardboiled. The prolific pulp novelist Jim Thompson wrote some of the rawest and meanest crime novles of the 50s, including "The Grifters" and "After Dark, My Sweet." He switches it up a little here, preserving his lean, visceral style, but leaving the crime plots for a story set in a hospital for alcoholics. A cynical doctor presides over a freak's gallery of patients & employees-a hot nurse with a stutter, a lobotomized millionaire, soused writers, military men, and publishers. All itching for just one more drink. . .or one more thrill! See: http://www.mulhollandbooks.com/jimthompson/
