I must admit, I have not finished this challenging book yet as I post this comment, but I can readily agree with the comment made by claire1953. This is definitely not the kind of biography that you can sit back and enjoy reading with ease. As claire1953 said, this book is for "history buffs." (Yes, I will try finishing it)

This book is obviously the result of years of work on the part of the author. It is not, however, for the faint of heart. It's 576 pages contain hundreds of historical details surrounding Victoria's reign. The reader who is more interested in her as a person must sift through these details to find the interesting woman that she was. Because of her extremely long reign and because she bore nine children, one volume would not suffice to fully understand her relationship with her children and grand-children. After her death, Edward VII and her youngest daughter Beatrice ensured that a lot of her personal correspondence with Prime Ministers, John Brown ant the Munshi were seriously edited and/or destroyed. Again, a book for serious history buffs.
