The pre-cruise biographical content didn't do much for me and I began to skip over it. She did not give me a good feel for the areas she traveled through...just relatively brief descriptions.

This book was a lovely reading experience and Kathleen Winter is a gifted writer who does a great job conjuring up images of the far north. My only complaint is that I would have preferred if she had fully focused on the Northwest Passage trip instead of adding the sections about her personal life which always felt to me like interruptions to the narrative.

Reading this book is like lifting rocks, expecting to find ants and instead releasing butterflies. No offence to ants meant.

what a wonderfully thoughtful, stirring account of a voyage - physical, emotional and other-worldly.

I appreciate Kathleen Winter's slant both here and in Annabel.

This book is so beautiful. A talented writer who takes a short voyage to the Arctic, and returns home- changed.
Not an Eat, pray, love kind of quest..nor it's rugged poorer cousin- Wild.
This is more than a story about Canada's northern geography. It is a story about solitude , isolation, loneliness and greed. The scene with the polar bear will break your heart.
An easy five stars for its exquisite prose.
