This was a great book! It reminded me of The Husband's Secret in that you never know what goes on in another's family/relationship.

Lisa is among hundreds of thousands of mothers who are struggling to balance work and family. Occasionally, balls get dropped. Unfortunately, the ball that gets dropped in this book is a friend's daughter, who goes missing when she was supposed to be in Lisa's care.

Paula Daly has written Lisa as a highly realistic character. She's unsure of herself and sometimes spectacularly says or does exactly the wrong thing, but generally has a big heart and lives an unassuming life. She seemed so human -- like someone who might live in my neighborhood and be faced with a horrific situation.

Lisa tends to be hard on herself and to take responsibility for things that aren't her fault (in other words, she's just like lots of moms), so she's as quick to assume the blame for the girl going missing as others are to place it on her...until she starts to realize that certain pieces of the situation don't fit together.

I had the twist at the end generally figured out before I got there, but that didn't take away from my enjoyment of the book.
