Another cold case journey with Harry Bosch, a compelling character and LAPD maverick. There goes the weekend...

Did not find this book as interesting as others. Rather boring and too much detail

I find the premise that Harry Bosch is a workaholic to be unrealistic. Michael Connelly's character lives in sunny Southern California. Don't you think that his character has something better to do during his offhours?

But the plot flows. I would rate "The Burning Room" at 4.0 stars.

Not my favorite MC Bosch novel, but still quite good, and I agree with the commenter, amukhrj, below about the ending.
I have a love/hate relationship with this series: MC's books are too realistic as far as real organizations [police, military, et cetera] go, but still enjoyable!

It was a very interesting read. However, it felt like the writer was lost interest in the end and wanted to the end the novel very quickly. A lot of stuff happens in this book. Has a lot of details. The ending was haphazard a little.
Good read nonetheless.

I haven't read many of Michael Connelly's books but I've enjoyed everyone I've read. They are easy books to read.

We have seen the last of Harry Bosch. If you are seeing the name Harry Bosch for the first time, pick something else from Michael Connelly's catalog. They are all good. This is not the place to start. If you know Harry Bosch, then read Snake by Mary Woronov first, then read this. Kinda creepy.

This was a standard Michael Connelly novel. Very much a police 'procedural'. I didn't really care for any of the characters that Harry Bosch or Lucia Soto (Harry's new partner) came across. This made it difficult for me to get through the book. I almost quit a couple of times. If the peripheral characters had been more interesting, I would have given this a 4/5 rating. It was, however, interesting in showing how a cold case can slowly come together after many years.

IMO MC is the best crime writer & his Bosch character is my favorite. I started with the very beginning of Bosch & have this dread that MC will let him die in the end. This particular read is not as gripping, yet the relationship between Bosch & his young detective is engaging.

The Burning Room is well written, routine, and a mildly suspenseful crime. Hieronymus Bosch and his new partner-in-training Lucia Soto solve two Cold Case crimes using effective police procedures, experience and expertise of Bosch. The aforemen- tioned talents of Bosch are shared and passed on to an eager, tech savvy Soto whose motivation to succeed are fueled and sculpted by her desire to bring justice for friends who perished and herself a survivor of an arsonist fire. Though the ending is melodramatic, a good read.

Not one Connelly's best. It read more like a police detective manual than a mystery novel.

A birth certificate was the only requirement to apply for a California driver’s license. The problem was, there was no national template for birth certificates. Thousands of counties across the country issued them, each with its own design. A DMV clerk in California would be hard-pressed to declare as false a certificate from ... if the document presented appeared official and legitimate. A driver’s license would be only one stop on the way to a full identity package, with Social Security number and passport to follow.

It's a hot door and we have to be careful. You never open a door on a burning room.
