It begins as a statistical oddity: a spike in children born with acute speech delays. Physically normal in every way, these children never speak and do not respond to speech; they don't learn to read, don't learn to write. The number of cases grows to an epidemic level, and the so-called silent community is growing into an elusive, enigmatic force in itself. What will be the result of a generation of children forced to live without words?

Of the "what if" school of science fiction. The concept is unique and terrifyingly portrayed.

I really loved this book. I could not put it down. Yes, it was long but it didn't feel like that for me. It was beautifully written and I felt like any environment that was described was written out so well that i could visualize it easily.

Really interesting concept and writing style, but it did not need to be so long. Some of the vignettes did not feel relevant to the story.
