One choice can transform you--or it can destroy you. But every choice has consequences, and as unrest surges in the factions all around her, Tris Prior must continue trying to save those she loves--and herself--while grappling with haunting questions of grief and forgiveness, identity and loyalty, politics and love.

Tris's initiation day should have been marked by celebration and victory with her chosen faction; instead, the day ended with unspeakable horrors. War now looms as conflict between the factions and their ideologies grows. And in times of war, sides must be chosen, secrets will emerge, and choices will become even more irrevocable--and even more powerful. Transformed by her own decisions but also by haunting grief and guilt, radical new discoveries, and shifting relationships, Tris must fully embrace her Divergence, even if she does not know what she may lose by doing so.

New York Times bestselling author Veronica Roth's much-anticipated second installment of the dystopian Divergent series is another intoxicating thrill ride of a story, rich with hallmark twists, heartbreaks, romance, and powerful insights about human nature.

The story of Tris, Four, & their gang continues. The story continues to unfold about who Tris' & Four's parents REALLY were & why they made the choices they did along the way. We get to know Tris' brother Caleb more in this book. And like many YA drama books, this one is not without it's teenage love drama as Tris & Four dig deeper into what their relationship is & where it is going. The problems in the world, or at least what they believe to be their world, continue to prove more in depth & more difficult than the good guys thought originally. A few more loved characters are lost to the cause, & even a not-so-beloved character exits stage left.

I said in my review of "Divergent" that I hadn't yet made up my mind about whether I preferred the Divergent or Hunger Games series. I am beginning to lean toward Hunger Games, but I still can't make a definitive decision just yet. I am not a big "love story" kind of person, so I don't care as much for the love story plot, but it does help to even out the anxiety of the war that is beginning to rage. On to the 3rd & final book to see how it all plays out.

A natural progression from the first novel. It didn't hold quite as much of the charm, but was still an enjoyable read. There were a few gaps in logic, particularly at the end in Tris' thought process when choosing her path, but on a whole the novel is a good follow up to Divergent and thus certainly worth reading.
