Jamie keeps it super-simple

Cooking doesn't have to be complicated - that's why Jamie's 5 Ingredients - Quick & Easy Food is sure to become your new best friend in the kitchen.

It's all about making the journey to good food very, very simple. Every recipe uses just five key ingredients, ensuring you can get a meal together fast, whether it's finished and on the table in a flash, or after minimal hands-on prep, you've let the oven do the hard work for you. It's about spending a little time to deliver a lot of flavour.

Each recipe has been tried and tested (and tested again!) to ensure the book is packed with no-fuss, budget-friendly dishes that you can rustle up, any day of the week.

With over 130 recipes, and chapters on Chicken, Beef, Pork, Lamb, Fish, Eggs, Veg, Salads, Pasta, Rice & Noodles and Sweet Things, there's plenty of quick and easy recipe inspiration to choose from.

Think Roast tikka chicken - a whole bird rubbed with curry paste and roasted over golden potatoes and tender cauliflower, finished with fresh coriander. Or, Crazy simple fish pie - flaky smoked haddock, spring onions, spinach and oozy Cheddar, all topped off with crisp, golden filo, and ready to devour in less than 30 minutes.

With every recipe you'll find a visual ingredient guide, serving size, timings, a short, easy-to-follow method, and quick-reference nutritional information.

This is Jamie's easiest-to-use book yet, and the perfect cookbook for busy people.

I have to give this cookbook a lukewarm review. It has lots of pretty pictures and it does do a good job of breaking a recipe down to a simple easy to follow guide. Unfortunately every recipe I tried from this book, only using the 5 ingredients, was bland or just felt like it was missing something! I would use this book as a loose guide for your own cooking. Most of these dishes could definitely use 6, 7, maybe even 8 ingredients.

I like to watch Jamie when he's on TV; I love his enthusiasm and the way he makes everything seem so easy. I find, however, that when I'm presented with one of his cookbooks, my basic skills aren't up to the task. That's on me, I know. I also dislike his dedication to meat; I wish he'd modify his views on that, but of course he has a right to his opinions just as the rest of us do.

This is a great cookbook for people who want to spend a minimal amount of time in the kitchen. While some of the ingredients are not extremely common, I've managed to find most of them at different grocery stores in my area. The title is a bit misleading though because certain things like salt, pepper, and olive oil are not listed as one of the five ingredients even if they are used in a recipe.

five ingredients, but not five regular ingredients. Nothing in this book I would cook.

A rich compendium of recipes that are not.... necessarily familiar.
example: Thai red chicken soup, meltin mustardy beef, fish pie, chicken pot pie with puff past;

Lovely format .. recipe on the left, classy photo full size on right page.
If you want to try something new in cooking, you'll find a handful or more of recipes you'll try.
My difficulty with these recipes is the price to buy "fresh" herbs for a menu item; and, I can't help but wonder why the dried herb equivalents are included as an alternative ingredient.

I like Jamie Oliver's creativity ... but I'll still need to hunt to find his approach to more typical recipes because I'm not much of a more exotic cook. (yes, still working on getting the basics).
