Nihei has a rare gift for backgrounds and scenery - I've rarely if ever seen epic locations done as well as in another of his series, Blame. While such things get less attention in Knights of Sidonia, it's no less stunning. It's also worth mentioning that so far, this is a much more standard story than Blame, which I know a lot of people had a hard time getting into, what with the almost nonexistent dialogue and all...
