After a respected career as a LAPD homicide detective, Jack Till now works as a private investigator. But when the parents of a recently murdered young girl ask for his help when the police come up empty, Till reluctantly takes the case. As Till digs deeper, he realizes that the victim is just one of several young female escorts killed in different cities in the exact same way.

Disappointing. Sloppy Driving south and turning right means you go WEST not east. There is no mention of the first victim's jewelry, so how could Till recognise it in the photo of Kyra. And why would smart girls leave all that money lying around. Perry says because they don't want the IRS to suspect, Suspect what? Spread it around ,if you are so smart. Pretty lame

A cat-and-mouse tale, not a whodunit, and I prefer whodunits. I had to suspend my disbelief many times because I could not believe that the female victims were so stupid. Still, it was entertaining and, for the most part, kept my interest. However, I am not inclined to read other books by Perry because there are other authors that I would rather read instead, such as Dennis Lehane, Les Roberts, Sue Grafton, and Janet Evanovich.

I enjoy Thomas Perry for the nuts and bolts and the back stories. I have learned more about safe female traveling from Jane Whitefield than many self-help books. In another interesting connection, I have recently read several Stephen Hunter thrillers which offer extensive technical details about different types of guns. So when the villain of the Boyfriend becomes obsessed and proficient with the .50 Barrett rifle, I know exactly what Thomas Perry is talking about ! Especially like Jack Till's relationship with his daughter Holly.

Pretty good... suspense, a coherent story, and some interesting character material

An excellent read, by a rather dry author (how unlike one of his earliest, and best books, "Metzger's Dog") who nevertheless gives the reader an entertaining quasi-police-hired assassin-procedural. Recommended, but different from his earliest books.
