This movie made my summer! What a surprise gem it was. A terrific scary movie with lots of jump back moments (thankfully no gore though and not many special effects, so never mind if that is what you think is frightening) and brilliantly acted by all. Imelda Staunton is so bloody versatile you will never recognize her from the Harry Potter films, almost guarantee it, LOL! Rebecca Hall is also just wonderful as is Dominic West as the damaged heroine and hero: they will captivate you if given a chance. It is a thinking person's ghost story: you cannot talk and laugh through it: do not get it for a night when you invite your 4 BFFs! I will watch it at least another time and likely again and again.

To Long & is Incoherent, even when they get to the point.!

Even the lovely Rebecca Hall cannot save this attempt at a 'modernized' gothic novel. It's one misstep after the other, with only the ending holding some interest.

This is a moderately good ghost story that makes several leaps over large credibility gaps in the plot, but provides plenty of atmosphere, beautiful filtered photography, and a capable cast.

Nice story. I found it a bit predictable and saw the end coming a mile away, but it was beautiful to watch. Told fairly well. Acted wonderfully. Not scary, but still a good story.

Really enjoyed this, but confusing for me at times. By the end I think I knew what was going on. If you like a mystery/ghost tale you will enjoy this.

good movie, keeps you guessing. Good twist at the end. Not really a scary ghost story, but I don't think it was meant to be. Good plot & good acting.

Good Brittish ghost/haunting flick. Sort of a twisting plot and surprise ending. Does move at a slowish pace. It worked for me. There are some scares and some creepy moments, but the strength of the story was the draw and the payoff.

A simple good old-fashioned ghost story. Beautiful Rebecca Hall as Florence was well acted.
