Great series !!! great period setting and acting especially the lead ~
I am enjoying the George Gently series! Series 2 has George and John taking on a child abuse situation in 1966 - was probably even worse then, something not acknowledged or discussed. Episode 2 deals with a murder that takes place at a Playboy type club in Manchester. Young Inspector Detective Bacchus gets a bit to close to the "gals" made me wonder, when are we going to meet his wife - she appears in the next episode! Detective Gently still trying to fit in in Durham while babysitting and teaching Bacchus - who becomes a Mason to solve a crime only to find out his father-in-law is a local Mason. Ready for Season 3!
Gently is another of many well- crafted British detective series'.
Look out for Luther as well as others mentioned in other opinions here. As for Scott and Bailey, think "Coronation Street" at the local constabulary!
Good and cool.
George Gently is simply smashing. Gently solves crimes a Zen-like manner with a stiff upper lip in sharp contrast to his hyper little puppy dog sidekick who always jumps to conclusions way too prematurely. Five Stars!
There are a few other British mysteries around; Lewis (sidekick of the late Chief Inspector Morse), Detective Inspector Banks - also set in the north of England, and Waking the Dead (pretty graphic) but much more realistic than the 'C.S.I.' series.
There is a 2 women series also, called '? and Bailey' (first name escapes me!) but it is quite good too. Hope this helps ! Just remembered the other name its 'Scott'! (Scott and Bailey)
hi mystery fans i am new to this series. Can anyone recommend any other BBC mysteries Thanks much
This is a fantastic series!
I thought that at least 3 episodes would be on each disk. There were only 1. Why did they erase the other episodes????
