Fun but forgettable short novel combining historical and contemporary elements. Jillian, a member of the wealthy Llewellyn family and a designer for their jewelry company, has a series of spooky experiences starting on Halloween night and continuing into the holiday season. The new, handsome company hire, Robert Marston, finds himself increasingly drawn to her. As the story proceeds, they find that they are in fact reliving a story that happened four centuries ago during the English Civil War--and that Robert must save Jillian from a terrible fate, as he failed to do hundreds of years ago.

The story was concisely written and moved quickly. The paranormal elements and the idea of reincarnation reminded me of Lois Duncan's paranormal YA books, which I loved as a teen. I appreciated the concept here, but I felt that the character development was lacking--the story is padded with lots of secondary characters with their own poorly developed subplots. I also found the story itself a tad melodramatic--I don't think even the president of the United States has encountered as many assassination attempts as the heroine of this book.

This book was mediocre, but I still plan on reading more by Heather Graham. This particular book was an impulse read for the holidays. I wouldn't really recommend it. It was like a bag of potato chips--fast to eat, but left me feeling unsatisfied afterwards.
