"The 'dog' of the story is the Russian people, brutalized and exploited for centuries--treated, in fact, like animals instead of human beings."-translator Michael Glenny
Short, surreal, satiric short novel by Mikhail Bulgakov, who wrote "The Master and Margarita." Like "Master," it wasn't published until after Bulgakov's death in 1940. The two introductions give some context for the satire of Soviet life, which may be lost on contemporary readers.

i like this novel. It was interesting. If you knew he was a medical doctor before becoming an author some of the book made more sense.

A good book to start with.

A classic of early communist literature / sci-fi. Claimed by some to be one of the most accurate parodies of life in a communist society.
