"Set on the fringe of society, in a remote part of the countryside, Curling takes a keen look at the unusual private life of a father and his daughter. Between his unremarkable jobs, Jean-François Blain devotes an awkward energy to Julyvonne. The fragile balance of their relationship will be jeopardized by some very dreary circumstances"--www.imdb.com.

This film from Quebec is slow and uneventful, most of the time. And when something unusual happened, it was not explained. In the end, it is a drama on the strange relationship between a protective father and his teenage daughter, with many loose ends tangling and unexplained. In French with subtitles.

Quelle déception. Moi qui aime Denis Côté. Moi qui suit Emmanuel Bilodeau dans sa carrière. Le film le plus plate et sans histoire. Ben oui des scènes hivernales pis après?

The story seemed contrived, strange just for the sake of being different. Some nice imagery but that's about it.

J'ai bien essayé, mais j'ai abandonné vers la moitié. À bailler aux corneilles.

The scenery is beautiful, but nothing happens, at all.

SPOILERS- Curling is a bizarre movie; I made an effort to watch it to the end, but there was no reward. A father keeps his daughter at home, without schooling her, she finds dead bodies frozen in the snow but tells no one, the father finds a boy dying by the side of the road but puts him in the garage until he dies. The father leaves his 12-year-old daughter alone for a few days because he has to find himself by going to a new town and sleeping with a prostitute. It's just so weird and pointless- yet it has won awards. "We don't understand it so it must be great." Well, it isn't. The Emperor isn't wearing any clothes, and this movie sucks.

Tender, low-key story of a single father and his unschooled daughter in rural Quebec. Slow at times and seemingly deliberately enigmatic but populated by real people. Strange ending.
