Another great movie about human interaction, power and politics. The storytelling is clean and the director has made a great job.

Interesting that I thought this would be a movie of the book
The Lemon Tree by Sandy Tolan, which is also about a Palestinian family & an Israeli family, a true story of a home (with a lemon tree) inhabited first by the one family & then by the other, & the relationship & dialogue which developed between them. Also excellent.

This a deeply moving film about conflict in a context of cultural disconnection. It is extremely well acted giving a powerful emotional and sensitive portrayal of a well known, longstanding hot button international issue of Israel and Palestinian people.

I highly recommend this very human, personal and compassionate view of the complexity of present day Palestinian / Israeli conflict

It's hard to imagine how one lemon grove farmer can suddenly be considered a threat, and her property an access point to hurt the new Minister of Defence after years of being a border property. Yet, it does and it's sad to watch how this all plays out. The end is a pyhhric win for the owner of the grove.

A touching story involving 'real' people on both sides of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, without favoring either side.

Good - Lemon Tree (2008) [Foreign - Arabic/Hebrew] 106 min. This a well-made non-violent representative film of the tensions in the Middle East (more specifically, the Israeli/Palestinian conflict). An Israeli defence minister moves adjacent to a lemon tree grove owned by a Palestinian woman. The conflict inherited by the two is the fact that the lemon grove “may” pose a threat if used by Palestinian terrorists as hiding place to launch an assault. It’s clear in this film that the main cause of the conflict between the Israeli’s and Palestinians is basic fear. Fear causes unsavoury reactions that lead to more negative reactions and so on and so on. The charm in this film is the wonderful performance by Hiam Abbass, the Palestinian woman and how her plight is sympathized by the defence minister’s wife and to some extent, the defence minister himself.
