I do like a good mystery novel. I enjoyed the story enough to keep going, but I can't say that it "grabbed" me --- it may have been the narrator though. Either way, I found the mystery gripping enough that I was always trying to narrow down the suspects & create a plausible motive. I'm usually not too far off in my guesses, but this murdered wasn't even on my list of suspects! The ending was a little abrupt for my taste, but I didn't feel that any questions were left unanswered.

Age recommendation: 14 & over

On a scale of 1-10 stars, I give it 6.

When I saw that this Agatha Christie novel was read on audio book by Joan Hickson, I was delighted. Miss Hickson is ,in my opinion, the quintessential Jane Marple. But watching her deliver lines on screen is a very different experience from listening to her read. The old dear makes no effort to giving distinctive voices to different characters. Everyone sounds alike; the narrator, the members of the family.Old men and children sound the same, Men and women sound the same. They all sound like Joan Hickson! She just reads where others do a bit of performing. It is flat and monotonous.

The recording quality on this is terrible. Unlistenable in a car. Uneven and unusually bad for BBC audio. Might be able to lsiten to them on a computer or home CD player, but not with any ambient noise at all.
