This film from France began slowly and I was not sure what kind of drama I was getting into. As it progressed I was drawn into the lives of the aging, and kind couple and those that surrounded them. As the film concluded, my hope for humankind was raised a couple of notches. This is a great drama that portrays human virtues and does it unpretentiously. Highly recommended for the right audience. In French with subtitles.

Good French film about people laid off from an industry, with an unexpected twist to juice up the tale -- yet the direction goes awry as the end nears, and the sentimentalism gets too mushy and goes much too far. If you want what Hollywood provides by default, viz., sentimentalism of the cringe-worthy kind, this is for you. Pity, as the proceedings were going so well, for so long. Good acting (Jean-Pierre Darroussin in the lead), realistic characters, yet this project lost its way, probably reaching for a less hard feel to gain a wider audience. Pity.
