I've read or at least looked through this graphic novel twice and this most recent time my review consists of "bad". It's not a very good story line though the illustrations are better than some novels out there.
The X-men can be good reading entertainment in the right hands but I'd say that this novel wasn't placed in the right hands. Predictably violent with little character development, a snooze to read ultimately.

Yet another relaunch of Uncanny X-Men (which has since been relaunched again, under an inferior writer). This one features Cyclops and a handpicked team facing new threats in the aftermath of the schism that sent many of the X-Men and their students back east. Gillen has a good take on the characters, and is backed up by fine art. Perhaps it's just a matter of taste, but the weakness isn't really in the writer or the artist; it's in the characters themselves, and the persistence of Marvel to prop up Scott Summers. At this point in the comics continuity, Cyclops had become such a profoundly compromised character ethically that it's hard to find anything sympathetic about him. His entire approach is an "either you're with me or you're against me" attitude, and we've seen how that goes in the real world.
