"You need to prove yourself as a sovereign today," Lucius insisted. "As your American countrymen would say 'The training wheels are coming off.' And now."
I suddenly had a very vivid flashback of crashing my bike when my dad first let me ride without those two little wheels for support. I'd slammed right into the tree next to our house. "I don't know, Lucius..."

When Jessica Packwood found out she was a Romanian vampire princess, she had the shock of her teenage life. Turns out that was the easy part. Now, married to Prince Lucius Vladescu, she has to claim her throne and convince a vampire nation she’s fit to be their queen. But Jess can’t even order a decent meal from her castle’s Romanian staff, let alone deal with devious undead subjects who would love to see her fail.
And when Lucius is accused of murdering a vampire Elder and imprisoned without the blood he needs, Jessica finds herself alone, fighting for both their survivals. Desperate to clear her husband’s name and win his release, Jess enlists the help of her best friend Mindy Stankowicz and Lucius’s mysterious Italian cousin, Raniero Lovatu. But both of them are keeping some dark secrets. Can Jess figure out who to trust – and how to rise to power – before she loses everything, including the vampire she loves?

Add a CommentI loved the first book and the second one lives up to it (thankfully!) what I really liked about this one while reading was Jessica’s development as a character grows up. Dramatically. Considering she now has to rule and take Lucius place due to the circumstances she had to learn how to take control and she does it gracefully.
The plot itself wasn’t so bad although there could have been more substance to it. The reader already has a hunch as to who is behind the entire plot - a little mystery would have been appreciated and would have kept the plot a little more exciting. So the predictability of it sort of dampens the enjoyment of the book.
Nevertheless it’s the characters that keep the book going. Jessica and Lucius still have that great chemistry together. It’s the light banter Lucius has with Raniero that was also fun to read throughout the story.
Fun to read and it’s light, worth the time - from what I know there’s no more after this one. So to give the duology a nice closing, it’s a good one. (A story about Mindy would be great though.)
Bonus points to the cover. Love it!
This book was unexpected and filled with twists. It's a good book for someone that enjoys a good, somewhat-non-cliche vampire romance book.
A great sequel! I'm very happy that Jessica starts acting like a vampire queen in this book. It was great to see her transformation. I also liked how Mindy's point of view was included in the book. However, the ending was predictable. (The author wrote a short story on Lucius and Jessica's wedding. It's posted on her website if anyone wants to check it out.)
Romantic, thrilling, and with inspiring courage, this book was an amazing read; so much better than the first book in this series.
i really like this book!!! i recommend
I really liked this continuation to the story. I loved how strong Jessica became. There doesn't need to be a third book, but I would read it if there was.
Great book. I love it! Hopefully there's a continuation to book 2 and a third book. This book was so good that I think I became Addicted to it...
If you are waiting to read this book check out the short story (21 chapters + epilogue) of Jessica (Antanasia) and Lucius's wedding: http://bethfantaskey.com/wedding/wedding-chapt1.html
Sweet book ... like the way Fantaskey writes. Hope another one is in the works.
Not as good as the first but close enough.
