OMGOSH! Read this book. I found it a few years ago, haven't been able to get it out of my head (not necessarily a bad thing). To me, it's one of those books that when you come across in a leisurely stroll through rows of bookshelves, you have to take it home immediately.
It's this weird blend of fantasy and quasi-medievalness (:P) that is completely fresh for me. There are some moments that could scare younger readers, like when in a dream, an old zombie-like lady peels off a strip of skin on her arm and tries to get Syeira to eat it. And then there's some drug taking by a side character, although Syeira gets him to quit, thankfully. The fantasy bit comes in towards the end. Like Palomino said (BTW, love that horse coloring, palomino), plot is completely unpredictable, and story is definitely pure imagination. It's like revisiting a fantasy land you made up as a little kid, but finding it to be much darker than you remember. Beautifully bewildering book.

Wow, this is like I remember reading books as a child: the plot is completely unpredictable, the story is pure imagination.
